All our resorts overlook enchanting beaches and seabeds—how could we not love the sea?
Today we tell you two stories connected to the Dominican Republic.
In Cabarete, on the northern coast, we have supported since its first edition the Master of the Ocean competition; the 20th edition has just concluded! Imagine—70 athletes from 17 countries competed in five disciplines: kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, stand-up paddle (SUP), and wingfoil.
Do you know what wingfoil is? It is a water sport that uses a board equipped with a hydrodynamic foil and a hand-held wing to glide over the water, creating a sensation of flight. It combines elements of surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing and is considered accessible and versatile, suitable for different bodies of water and wind conditions. The sport has gained popularity for its innovative sailing experience and the unique feeling of flying over water.
Waves and wind form the stage for this festival that attracts many young people every year, and it is a real spectacle even just to watch the acrobatics from the beach. From Viva Tangerine by Wyndham, you can reach the competition area simply by walking along the beach!
On the southern coast of the island, we will see a debut event: in Bayahibe, this October, we will host the first edition of Oceanman.
The only international circuit of open-water amateur swimming races, Oceanman® has a community of over 40,000 enthusiasts and 30 events in 25 countries, celebrating endurance, motivation, and a healthy lifestyle. From October 10 to 12, 2025, 1,200 participants will take part in an exciting swimming challenge starting directly from the shore of Viva Dominicus Palace by Wyndham. The program includes 10 km, 5 km, and 2 km races, relays, and a special race for children—for a total of five unique events. It’s the perfect opportunity to test yourself in crystal-clear waters, in an environment that brings together sport and nature.
