We are truly happy to share with you some environmental achievements from recent months, and we dedicate them to you.
Playacar Location
· Viva Maya by Wyndham and Viva Azteca by Wyndham have obtained “Expert” status in the Wyndham Green program. After thorough monitoring, the two resorts in the Riviera Maya have rightfully entered the group of properties most committed to environmental and social sustainability. They climbed through the five levels in a short time thanks to motivated and effective management. The benefits naturally extend to all guests who choose to stay there.
· The beach shared by Viva Maya by Wyndham and Viva Azteca by Wyndham has received the prestigious international Blue Flag certification, valid for one year. Long and wide, with soft and light-colored sand, it is maintained in pristine condition daily, even when seaweed is brought in by the currents.
· Alongside the monitoring of beaches and seabeds, Blue Flag also promoted an international contest for Best Environmental Practices. The two Viva resorts won second place with their project Verde Costero: Beach Restoration with Native Flora, aimed at protecting coastal dunes. It’s a podium-worthy result, considering that 51 countries and over 5,000 locations took part in the competition.
Samaná Location
· The adults-only Viva V Samaná by Wyndham has reached the highest level of the Wyndham Green program. It became “Expert” after fulfilling all the steps related to environmentally conscious hotel management, the efficient use of energy resources, and a strong commitment to the local community. Only eight resorts in Latin America and about fifty worldwide can boast “Expert” status—an extraordinary milestone for a resort that has believed in and invested in sustainable practices since its opening, such as installing a photovoltaic system that now supplies most of its energy needs.
· Viva V Samaná by Wyndham also received an award during the “Los + Ecoistas” event in the Dominican Republic, which recognized companies that operate in full respect of biodiversity—the true heritage of the island. The resort stood out for its fight against climate change and its dedication to generating a positive impact both on the environment and on people—from its staff to the surrounding community. An interesting fact is that the event was organized by other hotel chains, which makes the award even more meaningful.

The “Expert” certification of the Wyndham Green program includes the implementation of recycling programs, the use of linens and towels without daily replacement (reducing detergent and water consumption), energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning, and digital communication for guests rather than printed materials (displayed on in-room screens instead of paper copies).
It also evaluates wastewater management, renewable energy production, plastic use reduction, the amount of non-recyclable waste, and staff awareness and training on sustainability.
