Our Commitment to Eco-friendly Initiatives
Each of our eco-conscious resorts is located on a beautiful Caribbean destination, teeming with pristine beaches, lush greenery, and abundant wildlife that make every moment at Viva Resorts all the more memorable. That’s why we believe it is our responsibility to preserve our world and all its precious natural resources.
Through our Wyndham Green® Certification, we are setting the standard for sustainable programs across the globe. Comprised of five progressive levels, the certification focuses on water and energy conservation, waste management, and the protection of biodiversity.
We are proud to announce that five out of 9 resorts have reached Level 3: Proficient certification. This is a significant milestone in our ever-growing commitment to environmental stewardship and a testament to how far we’ve come. Some of our efforts have included:
- Leading the hospitality sector in the Dominican Republic by installing photovoltaic plants for renewable energy and becoming the first properties to use natural gas for kitchens, boilers, and laundry dryers.
- Installing and maintaining coral reef nurseries in Bayahibe, La Romana for the protection of vital marine life.
- Reducing single-use plastics and eliminating plastic straws across all resorts.
- Implementing beach cleaning and reforestation activities in all destinations.
- Installing solar panels for water heating at our Dominican Republic and Bahamas resorts as well as wastewater treatment plants.
- Minimizing waste through recycling and eco-friendly disposal techniques.
And this is only the beginning. We are on a mission to reduce our environmental footprint and reach Level 5 certification across all resorts – while educating our guests and employees along the way. Together, we can help protect these extraordinary places we call paradise and enjoy them for years to come.
